The Elusive ‘A’
The General Paper is not an easy paper to do well in. Here are 4 quick tips on how you can score for your A Level Examinations.
Language is Key
Good English goes a long way. While it is true that doing well for the General Paper does not require exceptional linguistic ability, it still requires that you have the ability to articulate yourself in a coherent and captivating manner.
Be Insightful
What makes you stand out from the thousands of other scripts? Many essays are simply carbon copies of each other. It’s really quite simple: the more ‘textbook’ your essay appears, the less interesting it is, the poorer your content score.
Don’t Misread the Question
This is the biggest problem for most students. It is exceptionally important that you read the question correctly and answer it completely. More often than not, essay questions are not what they seem to be. For example, we tell our students that if the question appears to be a listing question, avoid it. The chances of listing questions appearing in the paper are slim to none.
Focus on the AQ
Do you know that the AQ is the most important section of your Paper 2? Markers typically use it to assess your language ability. Therefore, your AQ actually contributes to 50% of your Paper 2 grade! Spend at least 40 minutes on your AQ.
